Panova/ Poutchek win doubles title at Tashkent open
Unseeded Alexandra Panova of Russia and Belarusian Tatiana Poutchek bagged their maiden WTA Doubles title by lifting the Tashkent Open. At the Olympic Tennis Centre, Panova and Tatiana pushed aside the challenge of top seeded Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru and Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour 6 minutes. The winning pair Panova and Poutchek were teaming up for the second time at a WTA-level event after beginning their association by reaching the semifinals at Istanbul.
“It is so incredible. So special,” exclaimed Panova after claiming her first WTA title of any kind. “I conveyed the message to my coach as I am travelling with my father,” who according to Panova “is lucky getting good results.” “We will try to play more. And we will keep the partnership going as long as the results keep coming,” Panova added.
Panova and Poutchek picked up the top prize of $11,000 and pocketed 280 WTA points, while Dulgheru/ Rybarikova earned $5,750 and added 200 WTA points.
