Roland Garros, till now

Seems like another Grand Slam was needed to make me watch more tennis again. Not that I wouldn't have liked to, I was just very busy. But these two weeks no homeworks or studying will take me away from my favourites' matches, I promise!
Here are a few thoughts about what has happened on the Parisian clay courts till now.

In the first round, six of our seven Romanians won their matches. Nice one, people! Unfortunately, the tennis gods were not very giving and planned some of the worst (or best, depends how you think) opponents for them.

Simona Halep def. Alla Kudryavtseva, 6-2, 6-1. Next up: Sam Stosur. (Simona lost, 0-6, 2-6)
Edina Gallovits-Hall def. Angelique Kerber, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Next up: Anastasia Rodionova. (Edina lost, 1-6, 4-6)
Irina-Camelia Begu def. Aravane Rezai, 6-3, 6-3. Next up: Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Victor Hanescu def. Benoit Paire, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. Next up: Novak Djokovic. (I hate you, tennis gods. I hate you.)

On the other hand, Sorana will face Alexandra Dulgheru, so we are sure we have at least one representative in the third round.

The match which probably shocked the tennis world was the one between Rafa and John. I was speechless at the way Isner managed to play from equal to equal against Nadal, on clay, and pull him into a decisive set. Now, after the way he played, I am really sorry he didn't win. He made history once, he was that close to make it again. But his tennis days are not over, no? ;)

Ryan Harrison, one of the miracle-kids of tennis pulled a set from Soderling and had a break advantage not once. You probably know I was with Robin, but good job, Ryan!

Unfortunately, the other miracle-kid, the bigger one, Raonic, lost in four against Michael Berrer. Too bad, Milos... We're waiting for the US Open though! :)

The inavoidable happened and Federer beat Lopez in three. It's okay, Feli. You win the 'Hottest Player' award anyway!

Well, if that happened in the first round, I don't want to know what can happen in the next ones!
Wait... Yes, I do! Goooo, claaaay!!!

Sorana as a godmommy

While some people are working in Miami, others are having fun at home. This week Sorana became the godmother of a baby boy, David, in her hometown, Targoviste. Here are some photos she posted on her official Facebook page.

Usually I don't like writing silly posts like this, but look how beautiful they are!!! :)

Fed Cup: Romania out!

Romania's Fed Cup team won the lattest two ties in Group D, but only for palmarès. 'The Tricolors', as they are called in Romania, unfortunatelly missed the chance to qualify in the competition's play-offs.

Romania surprisingly lost the first tie against the lower ranked Netherlands, 3-0. Monica Niculescu lost the opener against Michaella Krajicek (3-6, 1-6). After that, the 29th player of the world and the best Romanian of the moment, Alexandra Dulgheru lost against Arantxa Rus (4-6, 3-6). The doubles game didn't work at all in these days. Alexandra and Monica lost in three in front of Kiki Bertens/Richel Hogenkamp (6-7, 6-3, 5-7).

The second tie has been won by Romania, in front of modest team of Latvia. Monica Niculescu beat Irina Kuzmina (6-4, 6-2) and Alexandra Dulgheru won over Liga Dekmeijere (6-2, 6-1). In doubles, Alexandra and 17-year-old Cristina Dinu lost against Kuzmina/Dekmeijere (4-6, 6-0, 5-7).

In that moment, Romania was already out of Fed Cup. Anyway, they won the last tie against Hungary, with 2-1. Monica Niculescu against Reka-Luca Jani (6-0, 6-2) and Alexandra Dulgheru against Timea Babos (6-1, 6-1). Dulgheru/Dinu lost again the doubles in front of Arn/Babos (7-5, 6-0).

A Diary : Prettiest WTA stars

Hello again! Here is my new "A Diary" article, especially for the pretty tennis girls lovers.:)

5. Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) - I can't say I'm crazy about her like a person. But we have to face it: she's pretty. Tall and blonde, the 20-year-old Caro is one of the sweetest teen girls.

4. Vera Zvonareva (RUS) - Here is the outsider. I see her like the shy and naturally beautiful girl. She is blonde, her eyes are just fabulous, her smile is amazingly charming and she has the hottest coach. She is just Vera. And this is cool. :)

3. Viktoria Azarenka (BLR) - I think everybody agrees with me. Vika is one of the prettiest players and she barely has everything to turn into one of the biggest -and hottest!- tennis girls.

2. Ana Ivanovic (SRB) - Ana is a real star. Like Novak Djokovic said, she is one of the girls that truly has fans on the court. She is beautiful and her ex-boyfriend (Fernando Verdasco) is one of the hottest tennis players.

1. Sorana Cirstea (ROU) - She made sensation at Roland Garros in 2009. Not just for her surprising quarterfinal, but for her undeniable beauty, one of the reasons for the love she receives from the fans.

I know it was a short article. Sorry, I can't speak that much about girls. That's why I hope you'll read my next 'diary page', to find out my Top 5 ATP hotties. :)

Sorana Cirstea (ROU) and Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP) win first team title!!!

Top seeds Sorana Cirstea and Anabel Medina Garrigues captured their first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour team title on Saturday after they beat Vitalia Diatchenko and Aurélie Védy 6-1, 7-5 in the Estoril Open doubles final.

"I'm really happy to win the Estoril Open," said Cirstea. "It was really weird conditions here with it raining all morning and us changing venues, but I want to thank Anabel for playing with me. We make a really good team!"

It was Cirstea’s third tour-level doubles title, while Medina Garrigues won her 14th trophy, a total that includes two Roland Garros crowns with Virginia Ruano Pascual in 2008 and 2009.

After the trophy presentation, the titlists headed for Lisbon airport to catch a flight to Madrid.

Felicitari, Sorana, si asteptam cu totii aceeasi performanta si la simplu! Succes! / Congratulations, Sorana, and we wait the same performance in singles! Good luck!
